Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT500)
In 2001, after a period of illness which had prevented me from my regular form of exercise, I was fortunate enough to discover Yoga. Having always been a regular gym user, I found fresh and deep challenges through this wonderful and liberating discipline. These were not just physical, but spiritual and emotional. I was soon practicing daily, and attending as many classes as I possibly could. Through my own practice, Yoga was changing me on every level.
It was in 2006, that I felt I wanted to be able to pass on this life changing, and liberating discipline to others. I qualified as a Yoga Teacher at Shanti Yoga School (Nottingham) in that year, and still attend various workshops and seminars on Yoga, Thai Yoga Massage and Buddhism This has allowed me to develop and deepen my teaching and practice. There are many teachers of Yoga and Buddhism who continue to inspire me, and I thank these people for that wonderful gift.
I am currently running 8 weekly classes, within the Nottingham and Leicester area, from village halls to Health Clubs. These classes run for 90 minutes, with much emphasis on alignment and time within each posture, to explore the Asana. Some pranyama is taught, along with meditation and philosophy. I also have many clients including, Premiership Footballers, Professional Dancers and Stressed out High-flyers, and have successfully treated and eased a range of illnesses and physical conditions including, M.S, Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, Parkinson's disease and sport related injury.
I have developed and implemented new Yoga programmes, working with the sports science depts of Premiership football clubs, where I hold regular classes and use applied yoga and Thai Yoga Massage for injury prevention and rehabilitation. I also currently work for Spire Healthcare Group, at the new F.A centre of excellence, St Georges park, Burton upon Trent. I have recently ran workshops for the RFU, at various training centres in the Midlands, and work within various secondary schools within the midlands area, using meditation, asana and pranayama to give students the tools for dealing with the pressures of their forth coming exams.
My own personal practice is very much reflected within my teaching style. I don't conform to any particular type of Hatha Yoga, but it is very eclectic, and uses many principles of the main Hatha styles. I lead students safely and slowly, with an emphasis on a continuous steady vinyasa flow through the postures, and finally ending with meditation.
I take time to adjust and nurture my students, giving them that all important time within the postures, to listen and be prompted from within.
I have gained the following qualifications.
Yoga Alliance, 500 hour Teacher Training diploma (RYT 500)
VTCT Diploma- Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology (QCF) (501/1873/0)
Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner level (TTYMA)(CThA)
