Hannah HuntRegistered Yoga Teacher (RYT200) |
I began yoga whilst in my final year of my engineering degree at Liverpool University. I immediately became hooked after leaving my first class, feeling relaxed, stress free and happy! A great improvement to my usual stressed and manic self! I haven’t looked back since….
I have been studying yoga since 2001 and have practised a variety of styles including Iyengar, Power, Vini and Sivananda yoga. I discovered Astanga Yoga in 2005, and instantly fell in love with the combination of strength, flexibility, stamina and dynamic meditational flow that this style provides. Soon after, I had a climbing accident that left me with a broken heel. As soon as I was off my crutches I was back on my mat attempting my asana. It was a difficult time but yoga really helped me both physically and mentally to recover from this injury.
Last year my passion for yoga and travel took me to the roots of this yogic practice, the Astanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore. This is the home of the late Sri K Pattabhi Jois, the guru of Astanga Yoga, affectionately known by his students as Guruji. Here I spent a month studying Mysore self-practice style with his daughter Saraswathi Rangaswamy. It was an awesome experience, carrying out my own self practice amongst so many other yogi’s. The energy in the room was certainly something very special.
I have been teaching yoga in Gloucester and Cheltenham since 2008. I have recently moved to West Yorkshire and i will be starting classes in the Harrogate and Wetherby area soon! In 2009 I completed a Yoga Alliance teacher training program under the guidance of Brian Cooper. This has provided me with a great foundation for teaching by improving my own self practice and understanding of yoga asana, pranayama and meditation. I have also been studying the history and philosophy of yoga. I really enjoy passing on my yoga knowledge to other students, whilst still constantly learning myself. I regularly attend workshops and yoga intensives to keep my practice fresh and provide myself with inspiration for my classes.
My thanks go out to the teachers that have influenced me over the years, including Helen Clarke (Liverpool), Sarah Hague (Manchester), Kathy Moores (Cheltenham), Sheshadri (Mysore, India), Sharat (Mysore, India) Jeff and Harmony (Canada), Wayne Krassner (US), Ian Davis (Cheltenham) and last but by no means least, Nawa Jyoti (France) and Brian Cooper (Edinburgh)
