How do I join Yoga Alliance UK?

If you have a recognized 200 hour certification you can join YAUK immediately. In addition, to remain on the YAUK Register you must complete a minimum of one CPD each year. YAUK CPD training modules will take place at registered yoga schools, and Approved Training Providers around the country. Insurance under the Yoga Alliance UK scheme is conditional on maintaining on-going training. Alternatively you can join any APT’s 500 hour training program which automatically covers on-going training.

What are Approved Training Providers (ATP)?

ATPs have been accredited to teach training courses which comply to the 200 hour or 500 hour standards. The standards set for ATPs ensure that directors of the training program have reached a suitable level of experience and knowledge to run a balanced and well thought out training programme. Applications for ATP will be carefully checked, and will not automatically gain approval solely on the strength of their written application. Moreover, the training courses will be monitored to ensure consistency. ATPs must also provide CPD training for their graduates, and this is a condition of acceptance as an ATP.

Are you claiming to be a governing body for yoga?

No! There is no governing body for yoga in the UK. Yoga Alliance UK has been established to promote and encourage high standards of teaching. Joining is on a voluntary basis, and we do not claim (or want) to be a governing or regulating body. Instead we would like to see quality speak for itself, and for good teachers to thrive and be noticed above mediocrity and indifference. We have no hierarchy or over-bearing bureaucracy, and we would like our members to contribute to our aims, and to be practising yogis rather than armchair yogis.
