Emily WebsterRegistered Yoga Teacher (RYT200) London United Kingdom
![]()
I began my yoga practice in Boston, MA in 2006. I had a stressful job working with inner-city teenagers, and yoga provided relief and rejuvenation. During my time in Boston, I was able to secure grants to bring yoga to my high school students, and also volunteered with YogaHOPE (www.yogahope.org), an organization that brings yoga to women struggling with drug and alcohol addictions, homelessness and who are suffering domestic abuse. Through these activities and my experience in my own practice, I realized that I wanted to become a yoga teacher. My intention led me to California where I studied with some of America's most renowned teachers, and then off to India where I completed my Teacher Training, studied vedic philosophy and meditated at an ashram in the Himalayas, and lived at an orphanage doing karma yoga (selfless service). My vision for my work here l here in London is to offer regular classes for the general public and private clients, and to introduce programs for the underserved and vulnerable populations in this city, aligning with the ideals of the programs I worked with in Boston.
I am a Yoga Alliance certified teacher at the 200-hour level. I completed my training with the Tribe Yoga School in Goa India in March 2010. The asana style featured on the course was a blend of Astanga and Dynamic yoga methods, and comprised pranayama, meditation and vedic philosophy. In November, I am embarking on a 2 year, 390-hour Teacher Training Course with the British Wheel of Yoga to build upon my prior training. I always aim to keep my classes fresh and vibrant, and the teachings from the course will help me in this effort. I teach a hybrid of many yoga styles, which can be summarized as a 'Vinyasa Flow' style. I study with teachers of many different hatha yoga discplines, including Anusara, Iyengar, Jivamukti, Restorative and Scaravelli, and integrate what I learn into my teaching. My intention is to lead a class that flows, creates power and strength, and equally stretches, relaxes and rejuvenates. I employ a slow flow so that the body can engage with and endure each movement and placement. I also integrate pranayama and meditation into my classes. I demonstrate modifications for postures so that students of all levels can find their own pace within the construct of the class. I like to keep my classes playful and light, infused with a sense of humor and freedom. My intention is for my students to leave class feeling empowered and energized, and also grounded and ready to move off the mat and into the world.
