I have always been competitive, pushing myself and at times been harder on myself more than I should ever have been. When I discovered yoga I started to let go of that. Yoga to me is learning about my limitations and being kind to myself within them. Understanding the needs of my body and discovering my own place of perfection, being balanced and finding self acceptance.
I have enjoyed yoga over the years and first came to it as a form of exercise, I knew there was more but never really dove deeply into the ideas behind it. I was a novice at meditation and only had a surface understanding of the Yoga . But looking back, the times in which doing yoga had the most profound effect in my life have been the days and weeks where the obstacles of life have seemed so vast and daunting. During those times I have turned to the discipline of the practice to keep me grounded, to help me stay focused to remind me that I am not what I believed I was. Sometimes in a class when I least expect it, the pain melts, my failings and the heaviness of my mind floats away and for a moment I become something else: an eagle, a dolphin, a bird of paradise, a child. I go home with a little more courage and a tad lighter and attempt to live my life a little better.

What I want to offer as a teacher:
I want to introduce healing benefits of yoga to minority women, women who would normally never have the opportunity or exposure to this amazing, opening, invigorating practise. I want to reach those who need yoga like I did and help them change their lives after grief, stress, or challenge. The attention to the breath, the skills and awareness that develops from doing the physical practise can change people. It changed and is changing me and I want to aid others in that transformation.
