I began yoga whilst in my final year of University, and immediately became hooked after leaving my first class, feeling relaxed, stress free and happy! A great improvement to my usual stressed and manic self! I haven’t looked back since….
I have been studying yoga since 2001 and have practised a variety of styles including Iyengar, Power, Vini and Sivananda yoga. I discovered Astanga Yoga in 2005, and instantly fell in love with the combination of strength, flexibility, stamina and dynamic meditational flow that this style provides. In 2008 my passion for yoga and travel took me to the roots of this yogic practice, the Astanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore. This is the home of the late Sri K Pattabhi Jois, the guru of Astanga Yoga, affectionately known by his students as Guruji. Here I spent a month studying Mysore self-practice style, and this was the beginning of something that was to change my life for the better. Since then I have completed a 200 hour Union Yoga teacher training with Brian Cooper and Nawa Jyoti. I now have a regular early morning Mysore practice with Joey Miles in Leeds. I teach astanga yoga classes to Beginners at the Sweaty Betty store in Harrogate.
