Teacher Details

My name is Lisa Shuttleworth and I have recently returned in September 2011 to the UK from Toronto, Canada. I am currently working in teaching and wanting to expand working with children and adults in the field of health and yogic intervention.

In 1990, I obtained a degree in Criminology at Manchester University then later a Master of Arts in Anthropology, Community and Youth Work at Goldsmiths College in London. I worked and lived in many countries working in the area of health and education with women and children from remote to urban areas, in community centers, youth clubs and non-governmental organizations.

In 1999, I gained qualified teacher status and worked as a classroom teacher in inner city schools in London for 4 years. I began to practice kundalini and hatha yoga and realized the benefits yoga could have on improving childrens focus, concentration, self esteem and awareness of identity and growth.

I decided to explore other avenues in benefiting children in better health and well-being. I arrived in Toronto September 2007, where I continued in furthering a career in teaching yoga and studying Ayurvedic Nutrition at the School of Natural Medicine. I completed a series of short courses with Street yoga, Yoga4kids, and at the school of Yoga and Renaissance in Toronto.

I soon opened my own yoga business called ‘Sampaguita’ teaching yoga to kids in state schools around Toronto as an extra curricular activity, offering for primary and high school pupils. I also taught at the YMCA in Toronto, private restorative yoga classes and assisted in the organization of the
Yoga in the Park festival in Toronto for 2 years.
