I have been practicing Yoga since 1998 and am a trained Sivananda Yoga Teacher, a registered Member of Yoga Alliance (200hrs) and fully insured.
My spiritual name is Janaki (another name for Sita - Mother Earth) which I love as it really describes everything I believe in; growing, nurturing, grounding and feeling connected with nature and everything around us.
Like so many, I came to Yoga because of stress and stress related illness. Yoga helped me overcome this by restoring my body’s natural energy flow, focusing and calming my mind, helping me to release physical tension in my body. I loved that Yoga touches on all aspects of the Self: the physical, energetic, emotional, spiritual and cognitive realm. This was a completely new experience for me, I was hooked and Yoga became my way of life
Yoga also gave me the gift of friendship, having met many like-minded people over the years who have become dear friends.
My first practice was Iyengar Yoga. Iyengar Yoga was a wonderful introduction to Yoga as it gave me the discipline and structure I required in my life at the time. It helped me find inner stillness, a quiet mind and brought focus and balance into my hectic life.
I went on to study Astanga Yoga. I enjoyed the energetically and physically powerful practice, the increased muscle strength and flexibility however, after some years realised I was losing the lovely precision Iyengar Yoga had given me in my posture and alignment. I too missed spending more time in postures, exploring breath and physical sensations at more depth and thus I began to experiment at home for myself. It had taken me many years to gather the courage to move my practice out of the classroom to my own mat, and it was the most rewarding step I ever took. At first I practiced with crib sheets as I couldn’t remember the things we did in class but soon I just practiced what came to my head following my natural instincts and what my body was telling me. My practice developed new depths and I fell in love with Yoga all over again.
Through my own practice I first became interested in teaching others and began teaching colleagues at work. It was a very rewarding and nurturing experience and I knew this would somehow become part of my life going forwards. It took me another couple of years to finally take the plunge, leave the City having just completed my Masters degree in Human Resources, and start to teach Yoga.
Over the years I have learnt to take my Yoga practice of mindfulness off the mat and integrate it into my daily life, my relationships and my work. In the fast paced environment of London it has helped me stay grounded and connected, keep my focus and not be overwhelmed by whatever life may bring my way, as it does from time to time.
Through teaching I hope to share the wonderful things I have learnt over the years, to actively support my students in their own practice and personal growth, to help them restore balance to their lives through the experience of awareness and mindfulness through Yoga.
My classes are varied, creative and free-flowing. The focus is on mindfulness, health and wellbeing whilst working with the body’s limitations. I do not follow one particular style of Yoga in my classes as I found this too prescriptive in my own practice; instead I choose to draw on the inspiring teachers I have had over the years combining my own learning into a lovely asana flow (physical practice), with pranayama (breathing) exercises, meditation, Yoga nidra.

Join me on the wonderful journey of discovery of the Self through Yoga.
