I started attending classes in Cape Town in 1975, at the Anandar Kutur centre. My first teacher was Mrs Muhl who taught Hatha yoga in a beautiful, relaxed and meaningful manner.I was hooked. I attended classes for approximately a year on an irregular basis, plus a weekend camp. However,on moving to the countryside, I found myself left to my own devices and started regular self practice with the help of a small pamphlet from the centre, written by Swami Venkatesananda, who I was extreemly fortunate to meet on a few occasions.
I continued self practice and started teaching friends occasionally over the years. When I moved to Belgium in 2003, the teaching of friends became more regular, and in Jan 2009 I joined my son Oliver, on a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training course in Kho Phangan, Thailand. The Hatha course was run by Randal O'leary (Ramgiribaba) from the U.S.A., under the name of 'Jungle Yoga'. On my return to Belgium, I hired a studio in the village of La Hulpe and began teaching. My style is dictated by movement/postures (asanas) and co-ordinated breath (pranayama).
In February of this year(2011), I moved to Bembridge on the Isle of Wight and have just started teaching in Ryde...soon courses for 'Seniors', beginners and intermediate students will commence in Bembridge.
